Porsche 911 (964)

The Porsche 911 (964) was introduced in 1989 as Porsches first departure from the traditional and aging 911 chassis. This car was almost completely new from the ground up and was the first 911 to offer AWD and the Porsche Tiptronic as options.

There were several trims available during the 5 year production run including the Coupe, Convertible "Spyder" and Targa. Each available in 2WD or AWD. The most significant of the 964 variations was the 911 Turbo. Seen in movies like Bad Boys with Will Smith, the 964 Turbo or "965" as some refer to it, was a powerhouse and evolved from a 3.3 liter turbo to a 3.6 liter turbo before ending production in 1994. The turbo eclipsed the Carrera 2’s 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds by .8 seconds. The 965 was also the last of the dangerous rear wheel drive turbo 911’s.

Porsche also built several desirable variants of the 964 including the RS (not available in the US), RS America and Speedster. The 964 was eventually replaced in 1995 by the new 911 (993).
